Somerset tour Day 7

July 12, 2008 | Somerset Tour | Comments (0) | by Larry Anderson |

This morning we boarded buses for downtown London. We had a bus tour of many famous sites (see the pictures). Around lunchtime, we got off the buses, and most of us toured the tower of London. In the afternoon, the bus moved us to the Covent Market Garden, and from there, chaperone groups went in seperate directions for the afternoon.

Pictures from the last night and today have been added to an AOL gallery.

Songs: Te Deum at Windsor

RIDING ON THE TOUR BUS

Listen to it!
(sung to Allouette)

On the bus, we’re riding on the tour bus.
On the bus, we’re riding to Sherbourne.
How did we get turned around,
On our way to public ground?
Late to bed, oh my head! OHHH!

On the bus, we’re riding on the tour bus.
On the bus, we’re going to see the sights.
Shall I wear my shorts today?
No a downpour’s on the way!
Shorts today, there’s no way!
Late to bed, oh my head! OHHH!

On the bus, we’re riding on the tour bus.
On the bus, we’re going to have some lunch.
Here’s a sandwich with some cheese.
Dry as sawdust in the breeze!
Chuck the lunch, thanks a bunch!
Shorts today, there’s no way!
Late to bed, oh my head! OHHH!

On the bus, we’re riding on the tour bus.
On the bus, we take a ferry ride.
Crossing on a sunny day.
WAIT the ferry’s gone away!
Waiting now, have a cow!
Chuck the lunch, thanks a bunch!
Shorts today, there’s no way!
Late to bed, oh my head! OHHH!

On the bus, we’re riding on the tour bus.
On the bus, we’re going to “Parie”.
Snacking at the Louvre today.
Fifteen Euros you must pay!
Pay to much, for your lunch!
Waiting now, have a cow!
Chuck the lunch, thanks a bunch!
Shorts today, there’s no way!
Late to bed, oh my head! OHHH!

On the bus, we’re riding on the tour bus.
On the bus, we’re singing all the way.
People cheering ’round the town.
Singing never lets us down!
Singing late, ain’t it great!
Pay too much, there’s no crunch!
Waiting now, we know how!
Chuck the lunch, have some brunch!
Shorts today, what the hay!
Late to bed, lay my head! OHHH!

On the bus we’re riding on the tour bus.
On the bus we’re singing all the way!

Somerset Tour Day 10

July 17, 2008 | News, Somerset Tour | Comments (0) | by Larry Anderson |

Today we started with a boat tour of Paris and got fantastic views of many famous sights. Then we headed for our concerts, first at Notre Dame Cathedral and then at La Madeleine.

Pictures have been added to an AOL gallery.

Songs: La Madeleine 1, La Madeleine 2

It was difficult to keep a dry eye at La Madeleine, in part because it was the final formal concert of the tour, in part because the choir sounded even better than ever, and in part because Lucy dazzled us with the pipe organ. Our farewell dinner was at Les Fontaines St. Honore. From there we bused/climbed Montmarte, the highest hill overlooking Paris, to see the views and to sing some farewell songs to Paris, including La Marseillaise. Finally it was off to the hotel for a few hours sleep (for some) before the journey home.

We’re gratefull for Carol and Jean, for our bus and airplane leaders, our tour guides and our chaperones, for our musicians and singers, and to all who have contributed to making this trip possible.

We HAVE had singing!!!

Somerset Tour Day 9

We enjoyed a tour of Paris today, including a couple of hours wandering around The Louvre. The choir sang on the steps of The Square Arch and also on the steps of the Paris Opera House. One of our guides joined the choir in singing. Quite a crowd of locals gathered and really appreciated the choir’s singing, especially the French National Anthem.

Pictures from the yesterday and today have been added to an AOL gallery.

Song: Heavenly Aeroplane from St Theresa’s

Somerset Tour Day 8

July 14, 2008 | News, Somerset Tour | Comments (0) | by Larry Anderson |

We’ve arrived in Paris!!!   On Sunday July 13th, we left London and headed for St. Theresa’s Church in Kent.  Father Gus presided at mass and the choir sang wonderfully as usual, including parts of Te Deum and Rejoice in the Lamb, and Heavenly Aeroplane.  From there we went to Canterbury, and then to Dover.  At Dover we boarded the ferry headed for France.  We sang “The Bluebirds Over the White Cliffs of Dover” from the fantail as the ferry pulled out.  We had some delay getting on the ferry and arrived in Paris late, so I have to apologize that there was not time to post new pictures.  As I write this, it is the morning of July 14th and we’re about to board buses and see all of the Paris sights.
